Local fire department successful in grant
Rural and volunteer fire departments from 39 counties across Indiana have been awarded more than $250,000 in Volunteer Fire Assistance grants.

Small Business Development Center singles out local store which sells 'affordable quality'
NV furniture store gains award from SE Indiana Small Business Development Center
The Southeast Indiana Small Business Development Center recently presented their Thriving Small Business Award to Eric Kimmel of Furniture & Things of North Vernon.
"These awards are a way for us to recognize small businesses in our area who are making a difference in the local market," said Julie Rigrish Southeast ISBDC's regional director.
Furniture & Things has been operating at 1661 N. State St. for the last two years. The retailer's goal is to offer the highest quality furniture at economical prices in a comfortable environment.
Kimmel, the store's owner and manager, said his personal philosophy is to exceed customer expectations.

Columbus Regional Health has announced a new position within its executive leadership panel. Denise Glesing was recently named Vice President of Growth and Strategic Planning.
The Vice President of Growth and Strategic Planning provides vision, direction and administration of business development, strategic planning and marketing and communications across all entities of the Columbus Regional Health system.

Thrive Alliance team recognized by state
The Thrive Alliance Ramps to Freedom volunteer team received the prestigious Hoosiers Helping Hoosiers Award during Indiana's Golden Hoosiers Award program earlier this summer.
The Hoosiers Helping Hoosiers Award acknowledges inspirational Indiana residents who serve other Hoosiers in an exemplary manner, and dedicate their lives to bettering the community where they live.

Winding Waters Guild celebrates handiwork
The Winding Waters Quilt Guild celebrated their mastery in quilting at their annual show held last month at the Stream Cliff Herb Farm. A great variety of items-61 in all-were displayed.
One quilt that caught our eye was a memory quilt by Linda Bauerle featuring pockets from her late dad's shirts, pictured below. A photo of Roger Maschino was featured in the center of the piece.

Franke serving on School Board Assoc. legislative committee
Nancy Franke has been appointed to the Indiana School Boards Association Legislative Committee for another two-year term. A Seymour resident, Franke is serving her second four-year term as a member of the Seymour Community School Board.
