Seven volunteers stood in the Bartholomew County Circuit Courtroom last week and were sworn in as Court Appointed Special Advocates, pledging to serve in the best interests of local children who have entered into the child protection system.
Jake and Meredith Inman of North Vernon are the parents of a son, Brady Jefferson, born January 6, 2016, at Columbus Regional Hospital. The baby weighed seven pounds 13 ounces and was 20.5 inches long. He joins a sister, Marlow, two-and-a-half. Paternal grandparents are Barry Elston and Marcia and Phil Leahigh, all of North Vernon. A Jennings County High School senior has been selected as a recipient of the President's Scholarship at Indiana State University. This is ISU's most prestigious award. It is valued at full tuition and premium room and board. Over 150 students were selected to interview for the prestigious award and only 20 were awarded. Stefani Williams, daughter of Mark and Dawn Williams, is the winner from Jennings County High School. Williams plans to major in nursing when she attends Indiana State University this fall. The Napoleon State Bank announces that Leslie W. Kessens, president and chief executive officer retired Jan. 31. Kessens began his banking career in January 1981 as an assistant cashier amd loan officer with The Napoleon State Bank. He was appointed to the board of directors in 1989. Then, in 1990, Kessens was promoted to president/CEO. His business leadership in the area spans over 35 years and includes serving customers, encouraging small business growth and developing The Napoleon State Bank to what it is today. Pastor-of-the-day at the Indiana State Legislature was the honor bestowed on Rev. Aubrey Bessenger of Hayden on Jan. 28. Rev. Bessenger was ushered into the legislative body and given a special seat near the podium. Seated next to him were the chaplain, and the physician-of-the-day. Rev. Bessenger gave the invocation at the opening session. Copies of the prayer were requested by the chaplain and several legislators. Rev. Rachel Schepman, Community Relations Manager for the Jay C Food Stores, recently presented a check to Good Samaritan Food Pantry. The company distributed over $20,000 to food pantries and soup kitchens in communities which they serve. Jay C Food Stores also has a program in place to safely donate dry goods and perishable food to local food banks. The program is for retail items at the point in the product flow where the product would be thrown away at store level. Wednesday, February 17, 2016
