City park celebrates the season
City park celebrates the season
The weather cooperated enough for the annual Easter Egg Hunt at the NV City Park to be pulled off Saturday, March 31; however, the ground was so wet, the hunt was moved to the tennis courts where about 200 kids shared a windfall of eggs purchased for an expected 1000.With such a decline in participation, some eggs were put back for a later activity. The children above were the lucky ones who won prizes. Pictured are, left to right, Callie Readnour, Mason Wilkerson, Brycen Vaughn, Hayden Franks, Liam Duff and Lilly Estes with Mayor Mike Ochs. The bikes were donated by JC Sheriff Gary Driver; Rick and Sue Bright; North Vernon Parks and Recreation; City Councilor Connie Rayburn; Walmart; Mayor Mike Ochs; and Judge Jon and Julie Webster.Robbie Brooks shows off his new bike. New book on Indiana's state forests takes readers on tours of these unique preserves
The History of Indiana State Forests" is the first of its kind, and examines the history of Indiana's state parks. Its analysis draws upon material from cultural geography, natural resources, and history.
"Indiana has 14 designated state forests with a wide variety of recreational activities," said co-editor and Ball State University history professor Ron Morris, who has hiked trails across the state for decades. "At the height of the baby boom, Hoosiers were questioning whether we needed to log our forests or use them just for recreation. Today we are in the post-industrial age and our beliefs have really focused on how we develop our state forests to be used by all Hoosiers for recreation."
