Ball State now first 4-year public university to be 'test optional'
Ball State University is making an important change in its admissions process. Ball State will make submitting SAT or ACT scores optional for its next upcoming recruitment class, who will begin their college education in the Fall of 2019. The University is making the change after a deliberative process that began in the spring of 2017.

JCHS student learns about service at annual leadership seminar in Circle City
Emma Morrison, of North Vernon, recently attended the prestigious Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminar held at University of Indianapolis. She joined more than 160 other young high school leaders from the region.
Representing Jennings County High School, Emma is the daughter of Alan and Lori Morrison. She will be a junior at JCHS.
Each spring, select area sophomores from public and private high schools convene at one of the 70 State Leadership Seminars across the country to recognize their leadership talents and apply them to becoming effective and ethical leaders.

Winner 'rocks' in recent contest
The readers who submitted entries in last month's Mystery Photo Challenge rocked - literally.
The Mystery Photo featured in the July 2 issue of The Sun displays an old conveyor and hopper at the former Hanson Aggregate Quarry property off Fifth Street on the northeast side of North Vernon.

New attorney joins Seymour law firm
Montgomery, Elsner & Pardieck, LLP, has announced that Ralph C. Melbourne has joined the law firm as an associate attorney.
A graduate of Indiana University Bloomington (2010) and the John Marshall Law School Chicago (2013), Melbourne returns to Southern Indiana from Chicago, bringing six years of transactional and litigation experience.
"I look forward to carrying on the firm's legacy with a focus on family and personal injury law," Melbourne said.
He also is fluent in Spanish so is able to serve the needs of the local Hispanic community and to work with local businesses and industry who employ Hispa-nics in their workforce.

Napoleon State Bank cleans up neighboring site for new branch
The Napoleon State Bank announces that demolition has been completed on the car wash on Hwy. 3, Westport next to the former MainSource Bank building. The Napoleon State Bank purchased this property in the spring of 2018 shortly after the purchase of the former MainSource Bank building.
"The Napoleon State Bank was happy to purchase the car wash property in Westport. This will allow for extra parking for our new branch, as well as enable us to extend the drive through lanes to improve drivability," said Mark Comer, CEO/President. "Along with exterior improvements, we will also begin updating the interior of the existing bank building within the new few months prior to the branch opening in March 2019."
