Like this fabled nurseryman, the folks at the extension office promote the benefits of apples each year during National Farm to School Month. The month promotes healthy eating and supports farm to school and other local food initiatives throughout the U.S., including Jennings.

Sen Lugar honored with post office name
U.S. Representative Greg Pence celebrated passage of H.R. 3152, legislation that would designate the United States Postal Service facility located at 465 North Meridian Street in Indianapolis, Indiana as the "Richard G. Lugar Post Office."

Free college aid event is set for Sunday, Nov. 3 at the high school
Financial aid professionals will be volunteering at 37 sites in Indiana to help college-bound students and their families open the door to financial aid during College Goal Sunday. Here in Jennings County, the event is set for 2 p.m. November 3.

Nature 7 Farm Photo contest invites youths and additional entries
What makes you proud to live in Indiana? That's the prompt for this year's Nature and Farm Photo Contest.

Two local land conservation groups sponsor this contest each year. This year, the Oak Heritage Consesrvancy and the George Rogers Clark Land Trust are challenging kids to enter the contest - and asking kids of all ages to submit photos that "captures the Indiana you cherish," that you want to see flourish and grow, the things worth protecting and stopping to enjoy.

Jennifer VanLandeghem hopes to get students excited about science
Jennifer VanLan-deghem has joined the staff of the Jennings County Middle School and will be instructing seventh and eighth grade students in science. She graduated from JCHS in 1994 and continued her studies at Indiana State University where she graduated in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry.
