Broadband expansion in the works
Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch presents checks to Jackson County Rural Electric Membership Corp. and SEI Communications last month at Belterra Resort Casino. Jackson County REMC received $431,582 for two Jennings County broadband projects to expand broadband to 281 unserved locations. SEI Communications received $12,997,889 for four broadband projects impacting 3,237 households, 285 businesses and 90 anchor institutions in Dearborn, Franklin, Jefferson, Jennings, Ohio, Ripley and Switzerland counties. Local organizations give thanks for grant assistance from the Community Foundation
It will be an especially bright Thanksgiving for six area non-profit organizations, thanks to grants they received this month.

Each fall, the Jennings County Community Foundation awards competitive unrestricted grants as a part of the Foundation's regular grants program. This year, the JCCF awarded $12,000, funded from interest on endowed funds earmarked to help meet community needs.

This is the eleventh consecutive year the Foundation has offered these fall grants.

COVID or Not...'Shady Sweep' Goes on Without a Hitch
In keeping with the COVID-19 times, the semi-annual Friends of the Muscatatuck River Society found it necessary to amend its tactics.

A statement issued by the group conveyed, "The FMRS has always encouraged everyone to be stewards of the environment, and our #1 emphasis has always been "Safety First." Due to social distancing protocols caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, we will not "officially" conduct our annual Fall River Sweep. Any individual or group efforts will not be sanctioned by the FMRS.
