After the recent open house for STEM participants, you can be sure that this program focusing on Science, Tech­nology, Engineering and Math is here to stay.

Over 300 people attended the event held at Jennings County High School showcasing student work in this field as well as featured speakers commenting on the importance of embracing STEM programming in today's educational process.

Kaitlin Welch earns a master's degree at UK
Kaitlin Nicole Welch, daughter of Kathy Langdon Welch of Butlerville, and the late Charles Welch, graduated with a master's degree in social work on Sunday, May 5 ,from the University of  Kentucky in Lexington.

SEI Communications awards scholarships
Eight winners of the SEI Communications scholarships have been selected for 2019.

This is the 27th year for the Southeastern Indiana Rural Telephone scholarship awards. The eight $500 awards are made available from the Southeastern Indiana Rural Telephone Coop­erative and SEI Data, a subsidiary of SEI Com­munications, to area high school seniors each year.

St. Vincent de Paul founding member opts to retire at the young age of 95
The North Vernon woman's last day of work at the St. Vincent de Paul Society's thrift store was Monday, April 29.

"Mrs. Lee has been a volunteer at St. Vincent de Paul from the very beginning, some 36 years ago," said Pat Dickerson, another volunteer with the nonprofit group and St. Mary's ministry. "We held a surprise reception for Mrs. Lee to celebrate her remarkable volunteering history. Around 30 other volunteers were on hand along with one of her sons, Richard Lee. Mrs. Lee was delighted that the organization took the time to acknowledge her efforts."

A woman who surely holds the longevity record right now in the Jennings County School System has made "the toughest decision" in her life. After 47 years, Mary Lynn Whitcomb has opted for retirement at the end of this school year.
