After two years of planning, the city of North Vernon launched a project that made it the first city in Indiana to run its city buildings on solar energy. It has installed solar energy at seventeen different city-owned sites and replaced 579 street lights with brighter, more efficient LED fixtures.
Doing so has allowed the city to produce its own power, enabling the city to control energy costs, better manage its inventory, and improve overall quality of life for the people of North Vernon. They did it all without raising taxes or the need for a bond.
