If Jennings County is going to build a new jail, build a big one. Build a jail larger than 500-bed jail. The consultant is quoted as saying that many counties are having the same problem. Let them pay for our new jail. Take their prisoners and, after costs, pay the profits directly on the loan. Have a contract with the taxpayers that the other counties’ money would go on the loan and not used for pet projects, or put in someone’s pocket. The county was warned about overcrowding before the last jail was built. No one listened and — guess what? — here we go again. Do it right this time or don't do it at all.
