Vanessa Nicole Smith of Charlestown has filed suit against Dan Corbin and the Muscatatuck Christian Ranch and agent Kenneth L. Corbin, 1820 S CR 75 W, NV. According to the complaint for damages, Smith, then age 14, was invited to the ranch the week of July 24, 2007. While a visitor at the camp, the suit claims she sustained personal injury during an "ad hoc horseback trail ride" which was organized by Dan Corbin. The suit alleges Corbin "encouraged" Smith to ride two up and bareback on a horse. During the ride, the horse apparently reared up and threw both riders, with the horse falling on Smith. During the remainder of Smith's stay, the suit claims the girl had no medical treatment, her mother was not notified and she was kept "in near isolation," bedfast in a separate cabin. The suit asks for judgment for personal injury, pain and suffering, both past and future, medical expenses as well as punitive damages because of the ranch's "gross negligence." A jury trial is requested.

Is there a reason this suit is being filed almost 6 years after the incident allegedly occurred?
