Visitors to the JC Courthouse have noticed a decrease in parking places. That's because the Vernon Town Council approved the sheriff's request to have reserved parking for the transport van on the south side of N. Pike Street. Ironically, the request was made before prisoner Kimlynn Patton's ill fated escape from the transport crew in March when the transport van parked in the county employee lot across the street from the courthouse. Five parking places were lost to the public, reports Mayor Dan Wright. Whether the county's employee lot will be opened up to offset the loss of public parking is not known at this time.-Staff Photo by Barbara King
The Area Plan Commission failed to receive any bids for the razing of the Butlerville School at their May meeting. While the APC had advertised for contractors to tear the old high school and elementary school down, no bids were forthcoming.
