Sheriff Kenny Freeman has announced several changes in the operation of the Jennings County Sheriff Office since he took office January 1.

"This is my All Star team," he reports. "I think they're great. We all have the same vision -Forward!"

Members of that team include his top three people. The Chief Deputy's job is now Dave Turner who serves as Freeman's right hand man. Turner previously served as a detective at the department and most recently as a deputy. His promotion leaves the patrol crew short, a position which Freeman is currently in the process of filling.

Overseeing the jail is Jason Bliton, commander, who takes the position of former jail commander Mary Miller who is now working at the Clark County facility with another Jennings County alum, Sam Beard, a former jail commander here under Sheriff Steve Hoppock.

Assisting Bliton at the jail is second in command Jason Allen. Bliton previously worked at the jail as a deputy while Allen had been an officer with the North Vernon Police Dept. and then worked in private industry.

Freeman has also eliminated the lieutenant position, instead adding a sergeant slot to bring the number holding that rank up to four. He admits that this change arose from his history in the military.

"I come from the Army where sergeants have a lot of power. I have a lot of faith in them," he explains.

Former lieutenant Mike Mowery is now a sergeant along with two who held the rank in the previous administration, Tom Webster and Allen Ritchie. Rounding out the rank is newly promoted Sgt. Anthony Mayberry.

Freeman has also decided to increase the number of detectives on the force "so we can focus more on narcotics."

Joining former/current Detectives Jim Blevins and Jeff Jones is a former deputy, Aaron Green.

The changes have all been accomplished with one goal in mind, says the sheriff:

"I want an A grade when the community grades us."
