12/27/2013 5:24:00 PM Woman charged with aiding in VFW burglary
An arrest warrant was issued for Kimberly Sue West, 49, 1470 Hawthorne Drive, Country Squire Lakes, who is wanted on a Class C felony charge of aiding burglary. West allegedly provided Jason D. Martin the keys and alarm codes so he could gain entry and burglarize the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2021 Hall in North Vernon. Ironically, North Vernon Police arrested Martin, 37, of North Vernon on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, after a VFW member found Martin early that morning inside the VFW building. The VFW member was in the building to prepare for Veterans Day ceremonies later that day. During his interview with Detective Brandy Blevins of the NVPD, Martin said that West gave him the keys and codes on the morning of the break-in, and that she had told him where in the building to go to find money and a safe. In the police report, Martin is noted as saying that he only wanted to show the VFW membership that they had someone inside who was willing to betray them, that he "only did it to help them out." In her interview with Blevins, West claimed that she had kept the key and codes in a bag labeled "VFW" in her truck, but that she never gave it to Martin. However, text messages retrieved from Martin's cell telephone did not corroborate West's claim. The bond for West was set at $25,500.
