Champion hurdler
Keri Ertel of North Vernon won the 60-meter hurdles in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Cham­pionships women's indoor track meet at Indianapolis on Sunday. A junior at the University of Indianapolis, Ertel's time in the finals was a personal best of 8.78. The Jennings County High School graduate also ran on UIndy's 4 x 400-meter relay team that finished third at 3:59.13. In the team standings, Lewis won the meet with 168.5 points while UIndy was second in 167. Bellarmine, Missouri S&T and McKendree finished third through fifth, respectively.-Submitted Photo

Hayden wins state crown in archery
Archers from several Jennings County schools showed their talent at the annual Indiana National Archery in Schools Program (NASP) State Tournament on Saturday, March 19, at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis.

Hayden prevailed in the elementary school division. Jennings County's No. 1 team earned third place in the middle school group. In the high school division, Jennings County's No. 1 team took third-place honors.

Jennings County High School senior Kayla Truesdell broke her own school record in the shot put last Saturday, heaving a toss of 45 feet at Lawrence North in a qualifier for this Saturday's Hoosier State Relays in Bloomington.

The second- and third-grade segment of the 2019 Spring Jennings County Youth Volleyball Camp starts Monday, April 1. The fourth- and fifth-grade segment starts Monday, April 15. (The sixth- and seventh-grade segment is now underway and ends Thursday, March 21.

New operating hours announced at Crosley's shooting range
Operating hours at the Crosley State Fish & Wildlife Area shooting range were changed earlier this month, according to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. Holiday hours were also altered from the previous schedule.
