Franklin College team to lead soccer camp
Johnathon KipperNext month, a soccer camp will be coming to Jennings County for youth of all ages, with hopes of developing skills and boosting interest in soccer in the area.
The camp will be from July 15th-18th at the Sand Creek Soccer Complex for youth ages 6-High School. Cost of the 4-day camp will be $100, which includes registration, a ball, and a t-shirt. Proceeds of the camp will go to help out the high school soccer programs, along with the new club soccer program, Muscatatuck United Soccer Club, which has not been around since 2012.
"The biggest challenge to be competitive at the high school level is getting players with minimal or zero experience," said Wayne Zamora, JCHS Boys' Soccer Coach and Muscatatuck United President. "So we reestablished the club
to provide earlier development for our players."
Zamora, who is entering his second year as head coach of the Panthers, also serves as president of the soccer club. He works alongside other board members with the club, which include former head coaches, assistant coaches, and players at the high school level. The club will start tryouts for U8, U10, and U12 teams at Sand Creek on July 11th, with hopes of playing games starting in the fall.
The camp will also feature the staff from the Franklin College Men's Soccer team, where Zamora attended and served as an assistant soccer coach.
"We wanted to bring a different voice, a different angle of experience to the club," said Zamora. "And have someone at the next level put the kids on the right track to develop."
To register for the camp, you can pick up a form at the North Vernon City Park Office or email email@example.com to request one. More information on the camp can be found in an ad below.
