All sports at JCHS, JCMS are suspended
|With the closing of Jennings County schools because of the coronavirus pandemic, all sports at both Jennings County High School and Jennings County Middle School are suspended.|
"The suspension includes practice sessions and any organized athletic activities," said Cory Stevens, JCHS athletic director.
As a story on page 1A reports, all Jennings County schools closed at the end of Friday, March 13, for at least three weeks. County schools are tentatively scheduled to reopen Monday, April 6, but that is not definite.
Many of the spring sports teams at JCHS and JCMS had started or were preparing to start practice. The JCHS boys and girls track teams were slated to participate in the Hoosier State Relays indoor last Saturday and this Saturday, but that event has been canceled.
The Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) suspended the rest of the boys state basketball tournament last week but has made no announcement yet on spring sports. The NCAA also canceled all sports at the collegiate level for the remainder of the winter season, including the men's and women's basketball tournaments, and the spring season. The IHSAA may end up following that lead.
"At this point, I really can't speculate on what the IHSAA will do," Stevens said. "We are moving forward, adjusting and preparing ourselves for the return of athletic activities when our students are back in class, until we are told otherwise."
