For around 15 years, a group of over a dozen people from Jennings and Decatur counties have gathered every Wednesday morning. Every week they meet religiously - a pun that seems most appropriate - for prayer, fellowship and breakfast. Absenteeism is virtually nil for the Wednesday Morning Breakfast Club. Now I know what it feels like to be the father of the bride. What a glorious and joyful experience. A week-and-a-half ago, my oldest daughter married the love of her life in a gorgeous outdoor wedding. Sure, I'm prejudiced, but Adrienne was a beautiful bride in a perfect wedding gown. Countless people have told me so, including her new husband, Spencer Hercamp. It was a beautiful wedding and reception, too, despite the heat and humidity. Temperatures were in the 90s and the humidity was above 90 percent. It was downright sultry with virtually no breeze for relief, but at least there was no rain. Monday, July 9, 2018
Oh the majesty, the glory, the history that oozes from the Twin Spires and all over the place at Churchill Downs, making the spine tingle for all who visit this magnificent sports landmark. That was especially the case Saturday evening during Downs After Dark at this famous Louisville horse track only about 60 miles south of North Vernon. It was a night for topnotch thoroughbred horse racing, including the Stephen Foster Stakes, a Grade 1 event. It was also a special night for turf fans to see Justify, fresh off his Belmont Stakes victory the previous week which made him the 13th Triple Crown winner in history. Monday, June 18, 2018
