Veterans service officer needs to be reinstated
Dear Editor,

Wise King Solomon wrote in Proverbs 14:12, "There is a way that seems right to a man. But in its end is the way of death."

From the founding of our country and the composing of our Constitution, every issue in life has had multiple advocates pro or con. Rules, laws and guidelines are all composed with the objective of attaining order within a group or society as a whole.

Don't forget the sacrifices made for our nation
Dear Editor,

After recently celebrating the Fourth of July, we have to think back to 1776 when the Declaration of Independence was signed. Betsy Ross was sewing our first flag of the United States with 13 stars for 13 colonies.

Alumnus greatly enjoys Paris Crossing reunion
Dear Editor,

For some local Paris Crossing graduates, the annual reunion of all classes is probably very common place. Duties and distance of the military and gospel ministry have greatly impacted my ability to attend.

'I seen' is another bad grammatical error
Dear Editor,

Mr. Bessenger makes several good points in his letter to the editor ("Grammatical errors make former teacher cringe," July 4).

Get educated on UTVs
Dear Editor,

Re: "City police: Drinking and UTVs don't mix," Plain Dealer, July 4.
UTV stands for Utility Task Vehicle not Utility Track Vehicle!

Where is justice for victim who died after fire?
Dear Editor,

I am writing this letter about a victim of murder.

On May 3, Robert Head, a man who grew up near me a few years ago, suffered serious burns in a car fire at Country Squire Lakes. He died of those injuries at the Eskenazi Health hospital in Indianapolis on June 23. His late mother was a dear friend of mine and I have been in contact with his sister.

Newspaper accused of political bias, censorship
Dear Editor,

Hisses to the Plain Dealer for political bias, censorship and editing of free thinking, free ideas and free opinions.

The Plain Dealer edits and suppresses our opinions to suit their own agenda. They claim I cannot make up my own facts in letters to the editor. But the media, politicians and so on are all liars, playing politics versus public service.

Narrow, hilly roads too dangerous for semi-trucks
I live on a narrow, hilly Jennings County road - County Road 1100 North near 400 East - that often is used by large semi-trucks, most of which are loaded with wide loads of lumber.

Use some of profits from jail commissary for rehab
I am currently incarcerated in the Jennings County Jail. I am in a block with four cells where there are 25 women and 18 of them are sleeping on the floor as of today's date, June 17.

Supports former director
I'm writing about the story in the Plain Dealer ("No meals at Senior Resources in June and July," June 13) where a Senior Center spokesperson tried to make Ruth Bosch, the center's former director, look bad.

Whatever happened to basic customer service?
With all the complaints about the lack of cashiers at the North Vernon Walmart (re: "Readers' kisses and hisses, June 13 and previous issues), which I have also suffered, perhaps it is time for action.

Great outside-the-box idea on work-release program
Dear Editor,

Kudos to Rose Acres Farms and the Jennings County Sheriff's Office for their teamwork in developing a true work-release program for qualifying jail inmates.

Isn't there a way to stop flower thefts at cemetery?
Dear Editor,

A recent situation leads me to write this letter to the editor and to all the readers of this newspaper.

Memorial Day, or Decoration Day, as it was originally called, is a time when one honors those who have died. It is especially a time to honor those who have fallen in battle, but also a time to honor beloved family members who have gone on before.

Recommends watching interview of 'Courage' author
Dear Editor,

Perhaps I can give another clue, dear editor, to those who read with mysticism what I wrote in my last letter to this community newspaper ("Breaking the silence," May 9).

How property tax revenue is spent in the City of NV
Dear Editor,

I'm writing you this in response to Mr. Brooks, who recently reached out to you in his letter to the editor ("Property tax questions," May 16) and posed the question, "I ask our public officials, what are the property taxes being spent on?"

As one of your public officials, I'll do my best to answer your question in the hope that my answer helps anyone interested or curious as to how their property tax dollars are being spent.

55 years after the final bell at Vernon High School
Dear Editor,

Fifty-five years ago this month, the final bell rang at Vernon High School. Thirty-plus bright young faces joined the adult world. Some went to college, some joined the military, some went to work at Cummins, some went home to the farm and some got married and started families. The Class of 1964 has graduated and VHS is no more.

Mike Miller and Larry Greathouse are doing a great job out here in Country Squire Lakes.
