Reasonable budget for jail
Dear Editor,
I fully agree with Dave Cheatham's opinion in his letter to the editor "Jail and common sense" (Plain Dealer, May 10).

A community problem
Dear Editor,
I have to respond to Mr. Son's letter to the editor with the headline "People should tend to their own side of the fence" in the May 31 Plain Dealer.
Now you've really gone too far!

Attorney: The real facts about CSL's receivership
Dear Editor,
My name is Larry Greathouse and I am an attorney with offices in North Vernon. As such I represent Michael T. Miller who serves as the court-appointed receiver of the Country Squire Lakes Community Association Inc. This letter is in reply to that which was printed in your paper May 17 at the conclusion of which the writer chose not to sign other than "Living in CSL."

Proud of her uncles who served in World War II
Dear Editor,
As we sat in our comfortable home and watched the beautiful ceremony on television from Arlington National Cemetery on Memorial Day, I'm sure it made us all remember and reflect on the millions of those who lost their lives for America. We want to thank them for their service and sacrifice.

Guns and school safety
Dear Editor,
Re: "Metal detectors at schools," Plain Dealer, May 31.
It should be fairly simple. If there is no checkpoint to keep people entering a building from bringing in a gun, then any person authorized to carry a firearm should be allowed to enter that building with a firearm.

People should tend to their own side of the fence
I was told some days ago something that perked my interest.
It's about the old house here in North Vernon, the one that has everyone talking.

NV Councilor apologizes
In the May 24 Plain Dealer I was quoted as saying a couple of things that were not meant, were very unprofessional and not of my nature.

Metal detectors at schools
We keep hearing about guns getting into schools. People have talked about this for a long time now.

Train rides could bring life back to downtown
Wouldn't it be exciting to bring life back to downtown North Vernon with train rides for the public from North Vernon to Madison and back.

Graham Creek concerns
Dear Editor,
This letter has a rather long preamble and a clarion call for continued action.
There are 22 creeks in Jennings County according to Bridgehunter.com. However, there is only one that nurtured me to adulthood, Graham Creek. Only a handful of surviving close friends and family understand my historical and emotional attachment to this distant tributary of the Gulf of Mexico.

NV spends inappropriately
Dear Editor,
I recently read the North Vernon Utilities is going to increase water and sewer rates over the next few years.

Don't sass CSL without looking at yourselves first
Dear Editor,
How dare the people of Jennings County say such offensive things about Country Squire Lakes. For years we have been the dumping place for the people you don't want to rent to in North Vernon. Plus there's not enough housing in North Vernon for low- to moderate-income families.

'Derangement syndrome'
Dear Editor,
I am awfully tired of the Trump derangement syndrome that all the Democrats and liberals exhibit. No matter how many praiseworthy things he accomplishes, they never give him credit for them.
Our president has a gay ambassador to Germany, a woman ambassador to the United Nations, a female Education Department secretary, a black secretary of Housing and Urban Development, female secretary of Homeland Security, and a female secretary of Transportation, who is of Chinese descendants.

What a shame that historic home has come to this
Dear Editor,
What a shame ... That a family allowed a once beautiful, formidable Victorian home to decay to the point that it has sparked questions, debate and anger on both sides in the discussion of its future.

Jail and common sense
Dear Editor,
When I served in office, I tried to use a common sense approach to do the best for the public at the least cost to the taxpayer. This should be everyone's goal.

'Haters Club'
Dear Editor,
It was sad to see that our esteemed editor has now officially joined the "Haters Club" (re: "Kisses and hisses," May 3). He evidently supports the gross, mean-spirited "show" from Michele (Jackal) Wolf at a recent publicly broadcast event.

Respect our president
Dear Editor,
I say hisses to the Democrats for not supporting any of President Trump's appointments or any of the ambassadors to other countries.

Wednesday, May 2, 2018

Helping our environment
Dear Editor,
With the recent 50th observance of Earth Day, each of us can contribute by reducing our driving, use of electric energy and consumption of animals.
Yes, that.

Wisdom, hope and love, not anger, fear and hate
Dear Editor,
So where do we go as a country from here? If you are reading this in the newspaper and not online, you still have a responsibility.
Those who attended the event for former Congressman Lee Hamilton last week were blessed by his wisdom.

Demolishing a piece of our history
Dear Editor,
"The time has come to remove this blight on our streetscape." "The front and back are in a most terrible condition." "It's a disgrace to our community." "This place is way beyond repair." "There will still be plenty of other old buildings left." "This building has served its purpose." "Let's just tear it down and move on."
