The value of compromise
Dear Editor,

As I read the news or follow people on Facebook, I'm hurt by narrow-minded ideas. When I see opposing opinions, I look to try to find what is the source of their opinion or prejudices.

GOP's good, smart people
Dear Editor,

The letter to the editor by Thomas Smith ("We are all citizens of this world," Aug. 15) disgusted me so much, I almost vomited.

A two-tier justice system
Dear Editor,

Attorney General William Barr's announced decision to not pursue criminal charges against former FBI Director James Comey for taking classified information to his home has some commentators mystified, shocked and dismayed. It was reported FBI agents went to his home and retrieved the information.

Time for shift to plant-based eating
Dear Editor,

"Climate change threatens world food supply" was the lead story one day last week in leading newspapers. It was prompted by the release of a summary report by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), staffed by more than 100 experts from 52 countries.

Yearning for the old days of good governance
Dear Editor,

Congratulations to our esteemed AH Leader! Now you must decide what "AH" stands for. It could be "American Hero."

Now that this damaged human has been cornered, we see two distinct groups: Those who "believe" this is the Second Coming or those who have been labeled snowflakes, because evidently, the first group takes offense at the observations of the second group - like the observation that there is a constant inability of those who fall at the feet of our AH Leader to stand in the light of truth.

We are all citizens of this world
Dear Editor,

As I read one of the letters to the editor in the July 4 Plain Dealer ("Newspaper accused of political bias, censorship"), I realized why a small minority are still in love with Donald Trump. They don't know how to properly think. They don't reason things out using fact.

What we really need is unity
Dear Editor,

I admit agreeing with the Democrats on some issues, especially racism. Racism is out of control. The hatred, violence, prejudice and discrimination directed towards white people must end.

In regard to diversity, the Left is consumed with the need for diversity.
But we have diversity and always will.

Confusion over some NV city street names
Dear Editor,

Fifteen years ago, the stretch of "Lincoln" between Gum and Norris used to be called an "Avenue." "Lincoln Street" was east of the railroad right-of-way, while the "Avenue" was west of it. When and why did this change?

Can we afford another 4 years of this president?
Dear Editor,

We are getting closer to the end of Trump's first term in office as President or more accurately as dictator over the American people. I say to this, "Hooray."

Thanks for coverage on astronaut, NVHS alumni
Dear Editor,

I would like to make a couple comments on articles in recent editions of the Plain Dealer & Sun.

Thanks to Bryce Mayer for his column on our cousin Gus Grissom. (Re: "Astronaut's NV connections," The Sun, July 16.) The man does not get the recognition he deserves and there were a lot of things said about Gus that were not factual.

Too many liars and racists
Dear Editor,

I hope Trump gets voted out of office next year. In fact, I think both sides should be thrown out. Both sides lie a lot. They will lie to get in office and once they get in they are for themselves. But most of them aren't racist like Trump.

Fill out survey to help Jennings Parks Dept.
Dear Editor,

To all Jennings County residents.

The Jennings County Parks and Recreation (JCPR) Department is requesting assistance in surveying the community about Jennings County's recreational needs. The survey is mandated by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources in our five-year master plan process.

'Stupid genetic failures'
Dear Editor,

Global warming is amusing but real. Not that I have the least bit of concern for global warming or hold any hope for stupid selfish humans, but the ambient temperature of Earth is 58 degrees. My car exhaust is 190 degrees - times 6 billion passenger cars, plus commercial vehicles, industry emissions and so on forever. So global warming is a no-brainer.

Questions about off-road vehicles on city streets
Dear Editor,

Like North Vernon, I see Madison has also has had some recent escapades involving golf carts, off-road vehicles, alcohol and other shenanigans. (Re: "City police: Drinking and UTVs don't mix, July 4; and "Get educated on UTVs," July 11.)

Hoaxes hoodwink editor
Dear Editor,

Our esteemed editor had a wonder "hiss" for those still believing the hoax that we never actually landed on the moon (Plain Dealer, July 18). Too bad that he himself still believes two hoaxes: Trump-Russia collusion and Trump "racist" comments about the Flaky Four.

Veterans service officer needs to be reinstated
Dear Editor,

Wise King Solomon wrote in Proverbs 14:12, "There is a way that seems right to a man. But in its end is the way of death."

From the founding of our country and the composing of our Constitution, every issue in life has had multiple advocates pro or con. Rules, laws and guidelines are all composed with the objective of attaining order within a group or society as a whole.

Don't forget the sacrifices made for our nation
Dear Editor,

After recently celebrating the Fourth of July, we have to think back to 1776 when the Declaration of Independence was signed. Betsy Ross was sewing our first flag of the United States with 13 stars for 13 colonies.

Alumnus greatly enjoys Paris Crossing reunion
Dear Editor,

For some local Paris Crossing graduates, the annual reunion of all classes is probably very common place. Duties and distance of the military and gospel ministry have greatly impacted my ability to attend.

'I seen' is another bad grammatical error
Dear Editor,

Mr. Bessenger makes several good points in his letter to the editor ("Grammatical errors make former teacher cringe," July 4).
