Senseless tragedy
The tragedy involving the shooting down of a Malaysia Airlines jetliner in Ukraine is beyond horrendous. It is highly disturbing and utterly senseless that over 290 innocent souls were killed in a man-made disaster that should never have happened.

Deadly junction
The Indiana Department of Transportation has taken steps to try to make the U.S. 50-SR 750 junction safer. Clearly, those steps have not been as effective as they need to be.
Last week, a North Vernon man died in a horrific three-vehicle accident at this dangerous location. The wreck was one of many at the site since the western half of the bypass opened six months ago, but the first involving a fatality. It should be the last fatality.

Neocon advice
There has been a debate in recent days about giving a national forum to the neoconservatives who pushed America into a military conflict in Iraq in 2003 after the latest militant uprisings in that beleaguered country.
One camp says the neocons, such as Dick Cheney, Paul Bremer and Paul Wolfowitz, do not deserve to be given time on television news talk shows and newspaper oped pages because of the disastrous consequences of their policy. The other camp contends these people deserve a voice as does everyone in America and, after all, they argue, the neocons are smart people - which in this instance is debatable.
Here is the solution.

Helping hungry kids
The Summer Meals for Kids Program in Jennings County is not just for kids, of course. However, the innovative four-year-old program is aimed at youngsters from poorer families from throughout the county.
Spearheading the initiative from the start has been the St. Vincent Jennings Hospital Mission Team, a group of hospital employees led by Colleen Malone, the hospital's chaplain.
