We have a new hero among our roster of public officials we admire and respect here in Jennings County. We've covered quite a few governmental meetings over the years we have been reporting news, with most of our attention in government being focused on the City of North Vernon.
There is more content available today about the upcoming election than likely in any previous cycle. While we could fill this page with media sources that have some type of information about the election, most people find their election information on social media (like Facebook and YouTube), cable news networks, major broadcast television networks, talk radio, major public broadcast networks, local television, national newspapers, local newspapers or news websites. We are anticipating what will happen with the new "partnership" between the City of North Vernon and Historic Landmarks. An article in last week's and today's Plain Dealer & Sun reports how this historical preservationist group has been offered 504 East O&M Avenue by its present owner Jerry Greene, who said his plans to renovate the building became financially impossible because of the financial impact of COVID on his livelihood.

Elections are fundamental to our system of government. We commit to a peaceful transfer of power to the election winners. Elections are the way we do business and make many key decisions. We couldn't count the number of times we have covered the activities of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars Post here in North Vernon.
When our children were little, we would take them down to Vernon every Memorial Day as we covered the annual service for the Plain Dealer & Sun. The service was held to honor those men and women who died defending the freedoms we Americans exercise every day. The very fact you can read this editorial written by a local person or write an opinion letter and have it published are just two examples of the freedom we so often take for granted.
