Oh, what to do with Jennings County's so-called jail tax? The special income tax, which required the passage of a state law before it could be enacted by the Jennings County Council, has been the source of a red-hot controversy before it even took effect six months ago.

NV's swimless summer
When construction began last winter on the new pool at the North Vernon City Park, officials knew it would be a long shot to get the facility completed and opened for part of the summer. In fact, the most optimistic estimate for the aquatic center's opening was July 8.

May was the second-wettest month on record in the contiguous 48 states, according to the federal government.

Jennings County has been spared the flooding that has plagued many parts of the country, but the region has been extremely damp. June has not started much better here. Over 4 inches of rain has fallen since June 5 according to a Weather Underground station in North Vernon.
