|There will be a primary race for sheriff in Jennings County this year. There always is, it seems.|
Last Friday was the deadline for candidates to file for the 2018 election, and until then the prospects of a contested sheriff's race for either party on May 8 was in doubt.
With the clock ticking, Joe Massie threw his hat into the ring to make a run for the Republican Party's nomination. Massie, who ran unsuccessfully for sheriff as an independent in 2014, is pitted against Kenny Freeman, who, in contrast, turned in his paperwork on the first hour on the first day, Jan. 10, that candidates could file.

|Jails and taxes|
|It may have been a pipe dream all along to build a new Jennings County Jail without raising taxes.|

You are really on your high horse about "organic" animals. Too bad the Democrats aren't that upset about babies being taken out of women's bodies by Planned Parenthood and parts being sold.

|It's up to city, county
to capitalize on bypass|
|After five years of construction costing $45 million, the U.S. 50 bypass is finally here.|
With the eastern section of the new highway opening last week, the full 4.75-mile bypass has gone into use. This has enormous ramifications for North Vernon and Jennings County.

|Wouldn't it be nice if every day was Christmas Day?|
That is a thought that has popped into the head of every child along with the young at heart at one time or another, and for good reason. Christmas can bring so much joy to children - and adults - that it is entertaining to imagine what it would be like if every day were Dec. 25.
