Suppressing the democratic process
The performance Statehouse Republicans put on surrounding the removal of Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz was one for the ages. One by one, they approached the microphone and avowed their actions weren't in any way about wrestling control from the only statewide-elected Democrat.

Instead, the Republican from a rural district was bombarded with questions about why her GOP colleagues appeared dead set on stripping power from the Democratic state schools' chief, Glenda Ritz.

Thinking about health: Shopping for health care isn't like buying computers
Imagine a world where you could shop for medical procedures the way you shop for computers. Most likely, price is near the top of your list when you're looking for a new computer. Not so when the "product" is a hip replacement or an MRI.

Why the legislative process is lengthy
The Indiana General Assemly is full of deadlines; deadlines to file bills, deadlines to offer amendments and even deadlines regarding when we must adjourn.
With the committee report deadline on the horizon, the last few bills are making their way through committees. Many others have already moved on to the House floor for amendment and vote, but as is the case each year, a number of bills will never even receive a committee hearing.
This session, there were a total of 669 bills filed in the House and 589 filed in the Senate.
