I am glad Kimlynn Patton was captured but I want to make it clear to all citizens of Jennings County that the escape never should have happened. I understand Sheriff Kenny Freeman and his administration are trying to save face with the general public but their so-called investigation is nothing more than excuses. For far too long, City of North Vernon officials have dragged their feet on curbside recycling. Residents in Jennings County's only city are still waiting.
Proposals to start curbside recycling in North Vernon have been talked about for years, but it's been all talk and no action. The arguments against the move involve the usual suspects: money and expense. Critics contend a curbside recycling program would simply cost too much. Residents would bear the expense, of course, just as they do now for curbside trash collection, either through fees added to their water-sewer bills or via taxes. That expense, some say, would just be too much of a burden for the people of North Vernon to bear. Wednesday, March 20, 2019
The Jennings County Sheriff's Office takes complete responsibility for this unfortunate incident. We are not blaming any past sheriff administrations. We are continuing to investigate, we are updating our policies and we are making efforts to improve our procedures. Wednesday, March 20, 2019
The stories in last week's Sun and Plain Dealer ("Those poor babies" and "Necropsies indicate dogs were shot, beaten to death") was one of the most cruelest things I've ever read. Wednesday, March 20, 2019
