Saying they just didn't see how the home could be restored, six of the eight Area Plan Commission members voted to forego Indiana Historic Landmarks' plan to save the Victorian residence at 305 South Jennings Steet. This means the court order to demolish 305 Jennings Street stands and will be executed as early as June.
What do whooping cranes, hellbender salamanders, and high school students all have in common? They were three of the topics at month's "Conservation Happenings," an event at Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge that gathers conservationists from around southern Indiana to learn together. The annual event draws over 100 participants including landowners, conservation professionals like foresters and biologists, as well as educators and nonprofit staff. A special Ladies Night for Jennings County area women who want to do their part to stop invasive species is coming up. "Let's knock out invasives, ladies!" says Jenny Vogal, who is heading the event. Vogel is the Natural Resources Conservation Service's district conversationist based in Jennings County. Women who are interested in identifying and controlling invasives species on their land will want to attend the next Ladies Night. The event will be held Tuesday, April 24, at the Jennings County Community Foundation Center, 111 N. State St., North Vernon (behind Walgreens).
