Another historic structure doomed?
The North Vernon City Council gave its blessing to the Jennings County Area Plan Commission to solicit estimates on the cost of either shoring up or demolishing the 125-year-old home at 305 S. Jennings St.
"I hate to tear down historic buildings," said Brian Hatfield (R-District 4), "especially on that side of town where we have so many nice, old buildings."
The house was constructed in 1890 and is in the State Street Historic District.
By any definition, the deteriorating property owned by Robert and Maryann Schuck is not nice. The once grand Queen Anne-style house is in such a sad state of disrepair that officials for several years have said it is a hazard and in danger of collapse.

A benefit for Hunter and his family called "Warriors 4 Hunters" will be held Sunday, Aug. 30, with a motorcycle ride followed by live music and dinner at the Moose Family Center in North Vernon.
