Young Professional group forms
The Jennings County Young Profes-sionals (JCYP) receiv-ed permission to hold its debut activity at Triton Park at Monday night's City Council meeting.
Jeff Walker told the governors he and Anna Walker, his wife who works as special projects coordinator for the JC Economic Development Commission, are leading the effort.
The mission of the new group is "to connect young professionals with community needs and assets to empower personal development, strengthen professional growth, and positively impact Jennings County."
To be a member, a person must be between the ages of 21-40(ish) and live or work in Jennings County.Plans are to have six to eight yearly member events including social and networking events, educational and leadership opportunities, and service events.
The organization operates under the Jennings County Economic Develop-ment Commission.
The first gathering will be Friday evening, Aug. 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Tripton Park's amphitheater.
Walker asked the Council to approve the serving of beer and wine at the event. The board approved, as long as the city's insurance would cover any liability and if the park board would approve it. Jerry Lamb, though, voted "No," because he is not in favor of alcohol.
