The People's Taxi is now in business here. The small business, owned by Mark Kinnard, offers rides starting at $7 here in North Vernon. "I try to be reasonable," said Kinnard, who explained he has a very strong reason to start this type of business.
"Im not doing this to get rich," he said. "I lost a brother-in-law to a drunk driver." By offering this ride service, perhaps he can save a life or two.
Mark is originally from New York City but decided to leave that area after losing relatives in the World Trade Center terrorist attack on 9-1-1. He explains he "threw a dart" at a map and it landed in Louisville, Kentucky. However, he decided he couldn't handle living in a city, so he ended up in Hanover.
"Jennings County is a blessing," he says of his move here. He is currently employed at Majestic Care and drives his taxi in his off hours. He has one employee, Michael Sims.
Anyone calling for his service will need to wear a mask, which he will provide if the customer does not have one.
He lives by the motto: "Treat people with respect and they'll treat you with respect."
