Framed certificate buyer hopes to find its owner
A North Vernon resident has a mystery on his hands!
Ron Traylor of North Vernon bought a framed certificate at the North Vernon Goodwill late last year and has been trying to return it to its rightful family ever since. With no luck, he brought it to the Plain Dealer & Sun to get the word out and hopefully find the family of the man who originally owned the document.
The certificate reads: Know ye: That during the interim between June 1, 1966 and December 19, 1966 The Good Ship U.S.S. Stormes (DD-780) Circumnavigated the Globe: Be It Further Known To all swabs, salts, square knot admirals and cow hounds, that: Earl E. Foist, BMI was a member of her crew and is therefore entitled to all the rights and privileges accorded those who have followed Ferdinand Magellan.
The U.S.S Stormes began and ended its circumnavigation at its port of call in Norfolk, VA. Other ports of call include Panama City, Panama; Honolulu HI; Guam; Subic Bay, Philippines; Hong Kong; Kaohsiung, Taiwan; Singapore; Cochin, India; Aden, Aden; Suez, Egypt; Port Said; Athens, Greece; and Gibraltar.
If you have a lead as to how to contact the family of Earl E. Foist, please contact the Plain Dealer & Sun.
