'Move over' law in effect
In an effort to keep Indiana roadways safer, the Indiana State Police and The Indiana Department of Transportation are raising awareness for the state's "Move Over Law," which requires motorists to approach cautiously, slow down, and move over when an emergency vehicle is stopped on a roadway with emergency lights flashing. Undead will rise for the fifth time at Zombiefest
Plans are currently underway for the 5th annual fall fundraiser for the Jennings County Youth Foundation. The undead will once again descend on the North Vernon City Park on Saturday, October 24, from 5 to 8 p.m. for Zombiefest 2105. This is a free event. There is also free entry into the soup, chili and stew competition and free entry into the costume contest!

Mayoral candidate Mike Ochs says he offers a 'new vision' bolstered by community feedback
Saying he will offer North Vernon "a new vision," North Vernon Republican mayoral candidate Mike Ochs appealed to supporters at his fundraiser Saturday, Sept. 12 at the Rolling HIlls Shrine Club.
Ochs, who is completing his first term on the City Council, told the crowd it's not only the city that needs a fresh outlook.
"Everyone needs a new vision to grow," he said, adding that his agenda for North Vernon includes a better quality of life, better jobs, and ethics that will "save North Vernon from going deeper and deeper in debt."

Council OKs zoning for Tripton Place; details of 'senior community' emerge
Tripton Place, downtown North Vernon's senior housing project, continues to move along at a good clip.
Area Plan Director Cheryl Trisler reported the petitions for rezoning most of Fifth Street and 10, 16 and 24 Short Street were unanimously approved by her board earlier this month. Per ordinance, the Council has the final say about zoning changes in the city.
Eric Frey praised the APC and in particular Trisler for their attention to detail and for expediting the process. To apply for tax credits in the fall round, Frey must complete the application process by the first of November.
