NV services to likely cost more in 2018
Customers of the North Vernon water and wastewater utilities will likely see rate increases enacted this summer for the next three years.
Clerk-Treasurer Shawn Gerkin explained the city will be asking the North Vernon Redevelopment Commission (TIF board) for an annual pledge of $250,000 to help pay the cost of providing sewer service to the newly annexed area. The area to be "sewered" is up State Road 3 North. Per state law, the city must provide this service, as well as other city services, within three years of annexation.

Just-named utilities manager Russell Vaught has seen a lot of changes during his almost 40 years on the job, including this month's completion of the wastewater's $6.5 million Long Term Control Plan. If the plan had not been completed on time or if it failed to work, the city could have found itself facing thousands of dollars in fines from the EPA, said Mayor Ochs.
