From new billing to quarry tap, utilities facing more challenges
Just-named utilities manager Russell Vaught has seen a lot of changes during his almost 40 years on the job, including this month's completion of the wastewater's $6.5 million Long Term Control Plan. If the plan had not been completed on time or if it failed to work, the city could have found itself facing thousands of dollars in fines from the EPA, said Mayor Ochs.

Sun rescues Back Lot Bar-B-Q
The North Vernon Police Department's Back Lot Bar-B-Que celebrated National Police Week in downtown North Vernon on May 19. A special ceremony introduced by the department's Honor Guard paid tribute to the local officers who have died in the line of duty.
At first, it was feared rain would put the kibosh on the event, but the sky cleared just before 5 p.m and staff and volunteers hurried to get tables cleaned off for the meal, which was enjoyed by about 200.

North Vernon City Council
The North Vernon City Council received an update on their Redevelopment Commis-sion (TIF board) at their meeting Monday night, May 22. The commission (NVRC) oversees tax money captured from its defined Tax Increment Financing district which is basically the industrial area of the city. Such a district is created to assist and help fund and attract industrial development in the TIF and create jobs for the community.
