County fair is a go for 2021
A number of exciting changes mixed in with some classic vendors are in the works to appear at this yearís Jennings County Fair. Pictured is the beloved Miss Piggy food stand that will hopefully be making its return come fair time.

Strolling through the livestock barns, a homemade New Bethel ice-cream cup in hand, while the grandstand announcers are heard in the distance may not just be a forgotten dream this year. The 2021 Jennings County Fair is scheduled for June 14 to June 19 and there are a number of exciting changes.

Makeup artist to display skills at Historical Society on April 16
The annual Vernon Ghost Walk, known as Hector's Hauntings, is scheduled to rise from the COVID grave for Oct. 8 and 9 of this year. The Jennings County community can get an early taste of this Halloween tradition during a presentation by special effects makeup artist Danielle Colbert, who will be speaking at the Jennings County Historical Society on April 16 at 6 p.m.

Changing of the Guard
On Monday, March 22, Chief James Webster took off his badge and pinned it onto the uniform of his former lieutenant, Keith Messer. Officer Messer was officially announced as the new chief of the North Vernon Police Department and was sworn in at the city council meeting Monday evening alongside his wife, Natalie, and sons, Wyatt, 18, and Saban, 10.

Premier Companies, headquartered in Seymour, Indiana, has announced a $50,000 gift to support 4-H in Southeast Indiana, acknowledging the importance of 4-H youth development programming. The Jennings County 4-H program has received $2,000 to support agricultural-related youth development programs.

NV man arrested for possession of heroin
Deputies with the Jennings County Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic stop on CR 350 West on a blue Chevrolet Cobalt after being clocked at a high rate of speed on March 3. During the traffic stop North Vernon Police canine Zobie and his partner, Shane Trepanier, were summoned to the scene. An open air sniff was performed and Zobie alerted to the detection of narcotic drugs inside the vehicle.

Town of Vernon awarded $1M
The Town of Vernon was awarded over $1 million from the second round of the Next Level Trails (NLT) program for new trail development. The recipients were announced by Gov. Eric Holcomb and the Director of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Dan Bortner on Thursday, March 4.
