September sure isn't what it used to be
COVID-19 continues to impact traditional events here in Jennings, including four that normally highlight the month of September.
First up, the Friends of Historic Vernon have decided that in light of the current circumstances, all Labor Day events for 2020 will need to be cancelled.
"I think we are just writing off 2020 and will try again next year," said Vernon Mayor Dan Wright.
The Hayden Museum is also postponing their annual historic event on Saturday of the Labor Day weekend because of COVID.
However, all is not lost. The Spencer Township Fire Department will fire up the grill and prepare their traditional chicken dinner. Takeout only, though.
After Labor Day, two community festivals- St. Mary's Fall Festival and the Commiskey Fall Festival, have also cancelled. Erial Royalty of the Commiskey committee says the committee decided it would be "impossible" to hold the three-day event, what with the mask mandates and social distancing in effect.
