Suspect in local man's murder dies in custody
Detectives with the Indiana State Police-Versailles Post are conducting an investigation into the death of an inmate being held on a murder charge at the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown.
On May 10, Tobias Au, 30, was found unresponsive in a bathroom area of the Jackson County Jail. He was given emergency medical attention before being transported to Schneck Medical Center in Seymour. On Sunday, May 17, Au passed away at the hospital.
Au was being held at the Jackson County Jail after he was arrested by officers with the Jackson County Sheriff's Department on May 6 for allegedly shooting and killing Jennings County resident Ryan Joseph Ross, 28.
Ross had gone to Dakota Anderson's apartment early that morning in Seymour, reportedly to exchange the child they had togehter.
The woman was now in a relationship with Au, who arrived at the apartment shortly after Ross entered. Ross was shot several times by Au, who called police and admitted shooting Ross, according to Sheriff Rick Meyer.
Au was then taken into custody and had been incarcerated at the Jackson County Jail since.
The investigation into Au's death is ongoing although no foul play is suspected at this time, according to the Indiana State Police news release.
