Jailers foil inmate's attempted escape
The Jennings County Sheriff's Office is investigating an incident of attempted escape by a jail inmate.
Jadiah T. Duncan, 31, allegedly ran toward the door of his holding cell when Jail Sgt. Steve Frey opened it to check on Duncan's status. Duncan attempted to push Frey to the ground and run toward a door to a hallway leading outside, but Frey was able to prevent him from reaching the door.
Duncan refused to comply with Frey's verbal orders and continued to fight him until Jail Capt. Evan Ponsler was able to enter the area. Ponsler used a Taser to subdue Duncan; both officers then returned him to his cell.
Duncan had been out on bond for charges of theft and criminal mischief, and had been arrested May 13 for violating the terms of his release, a Level 6 felony. On Tuesday, he was charged with attempted escape and battery on jail officers.
Ponsler was treated and release for a knee injury sustained during the incident.
