Fair Board considers options
|The annual county fair may - or may not - go on this year.|
During a special meeting Thursday of the county commissioners, which was held online and included other county officials, Richard Ertel said the board is hoping to hold some form of the event in August.
Originally scheduled for June 8, the fair must be postponed until at least after July 3, according to orders from Gov. Eric J. Holcomb, in compliance with CDC social-distancing guidelines during the pandemic.
Ertel said because of the financial burden being placed on county government stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, the fair board will pay for the event with its own funds, and likely will suspend the county's annual contribution of $4,000.
As far as 4-H activities, the 4-H council is considering seasonal options for their members. The council is meeting Monday, may 18 for further discussion.
"We realize there are obstacles involved, and we won't spend a lot of money if it isn't going to be worth it," Ertel said.
If the event does go on, Ertel said he will present a detailed plan to the county for approval at the commissioners' regular meeting May 28.
