3/25/2020 1:20:00 PM PD&S to publish single weekly edition
We hate to do it, but there is little choice.
Starting next week and continuing until the coronavirus crisis and economic downturn eases, The Sun and the Plain Dealer will be merged into one edition. The newspaper will be printed on Wednesday and dated on Thursday, just as the Plain Dealer is now. It will hit newsstands Wednesday afternoon and be delivered via U.S. Mail to local subscribers the next day.
"We hope our subscribers and readers who buy the newspaper at newsstands understand the situation," said Barbara King, publisher. "Like other businesses in North Vernon, Jennings County, the state and the nation, we have been hit hard by the economic repercussions stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic and we are also concerned about limiting our staff to exposure to the virus"
This week, the Plain Dealer & Sun closed its offices to the general public as a step to prevent spreading the coronavirus. Newspapers can be purchased outside the PD&S office at 528 E. O&M Ave. from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. Newspapers are also for sale at numerous retail outlets in North Vernon and the area.
Other business can be transacted by calling our office at 812-346-3973.
We hope this is only a temporary move and we will be able to return to normal operations in the near future. That will all depend on how quickly the local economy can recover from this unprecedented situation.
To all our readers, thanks for your understanding and stay well.
