New Bethel News
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in the New Bethel Community as several have beautiful decorating themes done in lights and ornaments depicting the season. Two of the most elaborate settings in our immediate area are at the home of Anthony and Gina Maberry and son, Connor, and also Bob and Donna Wells and granddaughters' home on CR 850N.

Be wise by taking care of garden equipment now
Years ago, I made the mistake of leaving the water pump in the barn instead of storing it in the basement.

Columnist's home is quite the 'bird house'
My home is a bird house. Not a bird house, nor a house with many birds, living birds.

New Bethel News
The New Bethel Church family observed "The Hanging of the Greens" program on the first day of the Advent Season Sunday. Pastor Connie and husband, Mitchell, had prepared the altar area with royal purple velvet trimmings and the large pre-lit Christmas tree was set and ready for the children's ornaments. The white poinsettias were presented by Susan Davis and Emma Redicker. Wreathes for the wall beside the altar were hung by Kylee Walters and Hannah Webster. Hannah Webster read appropriate scripture while her sister, Sarah, lit the first candle of the season. The ivory ceramic Holy family sat on a large table in front of the altar. All the children hung handmade ornaments on the tree and we were told each family would find an ornament representing their family members. Special music was shared by Susan Davis on the violin.

Whitetail crossing - Originally called Virginia deer, they are numerous again
I was driving on highway through a woodland one cloudy, cold winter day recently. Trees and brush lined the road. It was a quiet road, no critters, not even a single bird.

Forcing bulbs for the holidays
The easiest and most common of the "forced" bulbs are the amaryllis and the paperwhite narcissus. Most bulbs require a chilling period in order to successfully force into bloom but the amaryllis and the paperwhite can be potted up straight from the store. This dramatically reduces the time it takes from planting to bloom by eight to 10 weeks. This is a bonus if you are a last-minute type.
