Thrill of seeing red-shouldered hawk
Arthur Cleveland Bent, in "Live Histories of North American Birds of Prey," published in 1937, described the red-shouldered hawk as perhaps the most well-known and common hawk of the eastern United States and southeastern Canada. The dogs heard it too and the three of us looked to the trees in the direction the call came from but I didn't see it, though it had sounded near.

'All is calm ...'
All is calm. Or is it?
