I received a letter from a reader years ago that asked somewhat of a philosophical question regarding determinate tomatoes. Yes, philosophical, because she asked why would we plant a tomato that sets its fruit, reaches a certain point, stops growing, ripens nearly at once and then dies?

Robins sing outside
The morning chorus of birds has ended for another year. Robins call sporadically from the trees in the yard and cardinals whistle occasionally but most mornings they are silent. This morning when I stepped outside I heard one bird, a house wren.

Who or what is God? Who exactly is Jesus? What do Christians truly believe?
Christians also have to be wary of pagan teachings being mistakenly integrated into their practices.
This is nothing new. Christians have fought these battles since the beginning of the church itself.

New Bethel News
There will be a fish fry Saturday evening beginning at 4 p.m. with serving until 7 at the New Bethel food building at the Jennings County fairgrounds. The all you can eat meal is offered for a goodwill donation supporting the college scholarship fund. Everyone is cordially invited to attend.

25 Years Ago & Longer
Horse Track Proposed
Jennings County was once a hotbed of horse racing. Some of the best trotters and pacers in the country were bed here. Competition was keen and fans thrilled at the sulkies, silks flying, rounding the track at the Jennings County Fair.
The sound of pounding hooves on local soil may be heard again soon here.
Gene Gilbert, owner of Broomsage Ranch, told the Jennings County Council on on Aug. 17, 1992, that he is working with a group of investors interested in backing a track in this area. Currently, a thoroughbred horse track being pursued in Shelby County is meeting with some opposition.
