After this month's heat wave, flea beetles seemed to have settled on just about everything I had growing in the garden. Bok choy, potatoes, tomatoes and turnips looked as if they were shot full of tiny holes!

Pastor Connie Barr's May 20 message title was "The Holy Spirit is Given at Pentecost" from scripture Ephesians 1:13-14. Pastor Connie explained that Pentecost means the number 50, which is how many days passed before the Holy Spirit arrived in human hearts after Easter Sunday.

Blooms, birds, critters all return just in time to celebrate spring
Redbud trees at the edge of the woods across the road are in bloom. Clusters of seeds, keys, hang from the maples in our yard. Leaves are unfurling on the maples and oaks and other trees and bushes in the yard. The grass is green and was dotted with the bright yellow flowers of dandelions until the mower came a few days ago. Tulips bloom in our flower beds.

When I was new to the Church, I learned a prayer to the Holy Spirit that has been very helpful in times when I needed guidance, which for me is the majority of the time! Here is the prayer:
"Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And You shall renew the face of the earth.

Suspect in Killings Commits Suicide
The man accused of killing two North Vernon police officers on March 24 committed suicide Thursday morning (May 13, 1993). Jonathan Warnell, 30, apparently hanged himself with a bed sheet in his cell while incarcerated at the Plainfield Diagnostic and Reception Center.

We enjoyed several visits with family and friends over the weekend. Some came for Mother's Day and others came to bring flowers to families that had loved ones buried at the Otter Creek Cemetery.
