Indian Hills Wants a Say in Water Indian Hills subdivision residents would like to have more of a say in the Vernon Water Utility. Some of them and others living across the Muscatatuck River from the town questioned Vernon Town Council members at length on how they might get representation on the utility and about the progress of the new water distribution project. The Indian Hills request for representation is not feasible, said Council member Robert Rockey, but he offered something for the out-of-towners' consideration. Wednesday, February 15, 2017

Life is a beautiful thing and meant to be enjoyed. It is full of wonderful surprises and moments of joy. I am thankful for the blessings that God has placed in my life. I have a wonderful wife and four beautiful healthy children. I am blessed to still have both of my parents to share in my life. I also have four siblings and we are all in good health. I know that I am blessed to have been able to have no major sicknesses or deaths in my immediate family. Wednesday, February 15, 2017
Sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Mary Wooten who passed away Feb. 3, 2017. Since Lakie Grigsby and Kirk were unable to attend the funeral Tuesday, they visited Sunday with family Virginia Russell, and her sisters, Hester and Pauline, and Earl and Josh at Springfield, Ohio. House sparrows crowd the platform of the bird feeder outside my study window. Other birds fly in from the bushes and trees around the feeder, land on the edge of the platform, snatch a seed or two, then fly back to the bushes or trees. There are black-capped chickadees, tufted titmice, white-breasted nuthatches, house finches, goldfinches, cardinals and a downy woodpecker. A blue jay flies in and the sparrows move aside, gave this bigger bird space. More house sparrows scavenge on the ground below.
Well, the 51st Super Bowl is over, half of the United States is elated and half disappointed. To win the Super Bowl is no small endeavor. Countless hours are spent by the best of the best in the world to create a victorious effort and leave the field with the Lombardi Trophy in hand. To be the winning church is a different creature. Schools Will Keep Property Members of the Jennings County School Board are not interested in other civic uses for the land at Jennings and Webster streets that used to be the side of the North Vernon Junior High School and before that the North Vernon High School. Not too long ago, the board turned down a request from the Jennings County Pubic Library Board that wanted some of that land as a site for a new library. Then on Thursday (Feb. 6, 1992), the school board turned down a request from the City of North Vernon that wanted some of the land and present facilities there for a mini park. No official was given for this by the school board. Wednesday, February 8, 2017
Pastor Connie Barr used scripture II Corinthians 6:1-10 to prepare her message titled "Christians are Ambassadors for Christ." She reminded us that people sometimes are judged by their looks, their actions, and speaking manners. Wednesday, February 8, 2017
A red fox went across our property earlier this month, before the warm weather came. There was snow on the ground, snow and ice covered our marsh. The fox came out of the woods across the road to the west, crossed a field of grass, the road in front of our house, crossed our marsh on the ice, then our hay field and continued out of sight to the east. I didn't see the fox. My older son did. He said it didn't stop to sniff or investigate anything as it went, just walked steadily on.
