Bank to Close Amid Protests Residents in the southern part of Jennings County are up in arms over the proposed closing of the Commiskey branch of the Union Bank and Trust. Bank officials are saying that over-regulation is forcing them to shutter the branch, which is planned in September. A petition drive, spearheaded by Jerry Hendrix, began as soon as it became public knowledge that the bank proposed to close the branch. So far, over 500 individuals have signed the petition. You read or hear the word "repent" and it usually strikes us as a little harsh. We can image the person who is saying it, well, we probably picture them screaming it, eyes focused, brows furrowed, veins bulging - "repent!" Did you know the word really is not a harsh one? If you look at the original Greek word that we translate into English as "repent," you will discover it simply means to "change your mind". Upon discovering that the word is gentler, do not allow that to lessen its power, importance or magnitude. Wednesday, June 13, 2018

June, 1954, I graduated from college and completed training in the Navy ROTC, the Reserve Officer Training Corps. On the day of graduation I became a college graduate and an ensign in the United States Navy. Before graduation I had received Navy orders; within ten days after graduation I was to report to the Federal Office Building, San Francisco, for transportation to Pearl Harbor and report for duty aboard a destroyer. That ship was one of a division of destroyers that operated out of Pearl Harbor. They were called the pineapple fleet.
Pastor Connie Barrís June 3 message title at New Bethel U.M.C. was ìWhen we Wait for Godís Perfect Timing, We Will See His Gloryî taken from scripture base John 11:43, 44. This was the continuation of her messages on Lazarus and we were told we learn patience through tribulation. Pastor asked, ìHow many times have you waited on God? How many blessings have we missed by not waiting on God? Trust in the present for we cannot see what is in the future.î She reminded us that how we love others is how we love God. Again, she reminded us to stop trying to fix things and let God be in control.

Our church is what is called a liturgical church. That means that we follow a set order of readings from the Bible throughout the year which takes us all throughout the Scriptures. Each Sunday what you will hear in our churches are three separate readings, Typically there is an Old Testament reading, a New Testament Epistle reading and a Gospel reading. These readings follow an order and theme that has been set down throughout literally centuries. Wednesday, June 6, 2018
My daughter and I spent much of a day last month out in my car, driving country roads, looking for birds. It was a gloomy day. The sky was blanketed with heavy dark clouds. The wind blew strong and cold and rain fell intermittently. But this was the date, chosen weeks before, for a spring bird count in our area and we were one of several teams in the area looking for, spotting, then stopping to identify and count birds.
