Trunk flare should be evident when planting trees
Hands down this is the best time of the year for me. The weather has a subtlety about it with extremes thrown in here and there as a reminder that Mother Nature will do as she pleases.

Bird watchers welcome fall
October is here and fall is in the air. Mornings are chilly, well above freezing but uncomfortable without a jacket. Everything outside shows signs of change. The sky may be clear; October's bright blue weather, or it may be gray and dull.

NEW BETHEL NEWS
Pastor Connie Barr chose Judges 2:6-10 to base her homecoming message titled "Let Us Be Faithful to the Lord Jesus in This Generation and to the Next," for an average attendance of listeners. She encouraged everyone of this generation to nurture the next generation to live a good life without regret in order to encourage others to follow good examples of God's love. "It is necessary that we sow good seeds in order to have a good harvest. Remember actions speak louder than words, and someone is always watching. Share the good things of life with your family. God can be lost in one generation unless we share the good news of Christ."

Goldenrod truly signifies autumn
Yellow decorates the countryside. There's yellow along the roads and in the fields, wherever it is not too dry and has not been mowed or sprayed. It's the yellow of late summer and fall, the yellow of goldenrod.

Wireworms in the potato patch
I have loads of potatoes this year, most of them are clean as a whistle. We get them out early so they are ready to harvest by mid to late August. This early start seems to offset any significant problem with wireworms.

New Bethel News
Annual church homecoming will be Sunday, Oct. 6. Pitch-in dinner will begin at noon. Guest speaker, starting at 10:30 a.m., will be Eve Davis.

Pastor Connie Barr's Sept. 29 message title was "Has God's Word Taken Root in Your Heart?" taken from scripture base Matthew 13:1-9. She explained that Jesus spoke in parables that we might understand his lesson in pictures which we could paint in our minds and think for ourselves. "God's field is the world. His word will keep us from sin. We either have an open or closed mind. If we are willing to listen, and learn, we can put down roots which will hold us up in times of temptation, and not be choked out." As you will see, this was a lesson on the Sower and the Seed, one of Christ's parables most familiar to many.
