John 'Jack' Wickens, 75, Sawyer-Pickett Funeral Home

John "Jack" Wickens, 75, of North Vernon died at 11:05 p.m. Monday, November 4, 2019 at Franciscan Hospice in Indianapolis.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12 noon Friday, Nov. 8, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Rev. Jerry Byrd will officiate. Burial and military graveside rites will be conducted at St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 until 11:45 a.m at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral Home.

Mr. Wickens graduated from North Vernon High School in 1963 and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served in the Vietnam War. He was a heavy equipment operator for over 30 years and was a member of the Local 181 Operating Engineers. Mr. Wickens was also a member of the Eagles, Moose Lodge, American Legion, AmVets, Knights of Columbus and St. Mary's Catholic Church. He enjoyed playing music, fishing, playing cards and pool. He served on the North Vernon City Council for eight years.

Born Dec. 30, 1943, in North Vernon, Mr. Wickens was the son of Bartholomew and Velma Campbell Wickens. He was united in marriage to Maredia Gevedon on October 29, 1976. She survives.
In addition to his wife survivors include two sons, Scot Hull and Chad Wickens, both of North Vernon; a sister, Linda Vawter of Shelby County; three grandchildren, Dakota Miller, Mercedes Franck, and Arminda Wickens; and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Wickens was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Joann Anglin.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the American Heart Association.

Jack was a classmate at St. Mary's (back in the 1950s). My prayers go out to his family and friends.

Want the family to have the Lord's protective hands be with the entire family through this sad time.
