Deni Lee Duffitt, 57, did not allow illness to interfere with her life

Deni Lee Duffitt, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister died suddenly, at the age of 57, on April 20, 2018. Deni suffered a massive stroke and was admitted to the University of Louisville Hospital where she later died surrounded by loved ones.

Deni was born Dec. 9, 1960 in Madison. She was a graduate of Madison Consolidated High School. Deni met George A. Duffitt, originally of Alexandria, in the late 1970s and they were married May 26, 1984, in Madison. Deni and George shared a home in Zenas for nearly 40 years.  Deni retired from Reliance Electric in 2002.

In 2006, Deni was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, Myasthenia Gravis, and while this disease had a huge impact on her day-to-day life, she never let her illness diminish her generosity, kindness, and love for all the people in her life, especially her five grandchildren. Deni continued her generous spirit in her death by donating her kidneys, for which she was awarded the Kentucky Gift of Life medal.

She is survived by her husband, George A. Duffitt; one sister, Sherri Cole of Lexington, IN; one brother, Dennis Truesdell of Hanover, IN; three children, George B. Duffitt (wife, Amy) of Elizabethtown, PA; Zarah Hileman (husband, Tyler) of Martinsville, IN: and Zane Duffitt (wife, Jessica) of Madison, IN; five grandchildren, Lauren Duffitt, Conor Hileman, Harrison Hileman, Penelope Hileman, and Tillie Hileman. and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Dennis and Rosemary Truesdell; and a brother, Howard "Lumpy" Truesdell.

The family will receive friends Saturday, April 28, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral Home in North Vernon, IN from 1 to 3 p.m. A memorial service will be led by Dan Corbin at 3 p.m.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America.

My true condolences sent to your family! Deni was a special lady to many! I absolutely loved her spirit and kindness. We became friends while deployment took place for the guys and I thank her wholeheartedly for the love she poured out to me and my family! She remembered my son's graduation, when he had a life-altering accident, my divorce, my marriage she always took a moment to send a card or a message. They extended their help by bringing items to us for our son when we was in need thatís more than just a friend, that is a bond of a military family support group that becomes family. I love you Deni! You will be missed by many!

My thoughts, love and prayers and my deepest sympathy goes out to all. God bless! Eric and Brandi Goble
