Alphonso A. Whitaker was a retired pipefitter
Alphonso A. "Al" Whitaker, 69, of Eddyville, Kentucky, died Friday, April 18, 2014 at 9 a.m. at Baptist Health in Paducah, Kentucky.
Funeral services were Monday at Morgan's Funeral Home in Princeton, Kentucky.
Mr. Whitaker was a retired plumber/pipefitter from Local 633 in Owensboro, Kentucky. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, boating, and tinkering in his garage fixing things. He also enjoyed spending time with family and his dogs. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW.
Born November 21, 1944, at Mid, Kentucky, Mr. Whitaker was the son of Thomas Benton and Cynthia Wireman Whitaker. He married Denise Taylor May 1, 1999. She survives.
Other survivors include his mother of North Vernon; sons, Jonathan F. (Robin) Whitaker of Butlerville and Kenneth David (Vickie) Whitaker of New Tazwell, Tennessee; daughter, Katherine (Allen) Smith of New Tazwell, Tennessee; brother, Max D. Howard of Mooresville; sisters, Deborah Murphy of North Vernon and Gordennell (Richard) Griner of Butlerville; stepsons, Josh and Justin Brantley of Eddyville; several grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law, Sherry Whitaker and Helga Howard, both of North Vernon.
In addition to his father, Mr. Whitaker was preceded in death by a sister, Carlotta Garwood and two brothers, Karl and Gene.
