Larry Joe Harper, 77, of North Vernon, died at 5:10 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2021, at Our Hospice of South-Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus. A memorial services will be held at a later date. Arrangements were entrusted to Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Mr. Harper was a 1962 graduate of North Vernon High School and retired in 1998 after 31 years with Cummins Engine Company where he worked the assembly line. He was a life-member of the NRA and a member of Rush Branch Methodist Church, North Vernon Masonic Lodge #59 and Murat Shrine in Indianapolis. He enjoyed woodworking, collecting antiques, and playing cards. Born July 31, 1943, in Jennings County, Mr. Harper was the son of Nelson Bingham and Thelma Findley Harper. He married Augusta Lachmann Feb. 21, 1964, in North Vernon and she survives. In addition to his wife, survivors include sons, Danny (Merlina) and Darren Harper, both of North Vernon; daughter, Amney Harper of Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Brothers, Tom (Thelma Kissling) Harper of Hope and Nelson (Rhea) Harper of Frenchburg, Kentucky; half-sister, Elsie Sing of Russellville, Kentucky; grandchildren, Adrienne (Ash) Harper-Pike of Victoria, Australia and Althea and Bingham Harper, both of North Vernon; and five great-grandchildren, Mr. Harper was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Roy and Odell Harper. Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Our Hospice of Jennings County.
